RESULTS | Handbags & Accessories Autumn Auction Sale Total: HK$43,127,500/US$5,537,401
Hong Kong – On 28 November 2018 Christie’s Handbags & Accessories auction totaled HK$43,127,500/US$5,537,401 with a very robust sell-through rate of 92% by lot and 95% by value. Almost 50% of the lots were sold beyond high estimates. The dynamic saleroom attracted animated bidding from 20 countries across 5 continents via all sale channels.
Top lot of the sale was A RARE, MATTE WHITE HIMALAYA NILOTICUS CROCODILE RETOURNÉ KELLY 28 WITH PALLADIUM HARDWARE, HERMÈS, 2015 (shown above), achieved HK$1,625,000/US$208,644, more than doubling its low estimate of HK$600,000/US$77,038.
Lots that were sold more than tripling their low estimates included A LIMITED EDITION MULTICOLOR SWIFT LEATHER ONE TWO THREE & AWAY WE GO BIRKIN 25 WITH PALLADIUM HARDWARE, HERMÈS, 2018 (shown left), sold HK$350,000/US$44,939 against its low estimate of HK$100,000/US$12,840; A RARE ROSE SAKURA SWIFT LEATHER QUELLE IDOLE WITH PALLADIUM HARDWARE, SOGO HONG KONG 2010 LIMITED EDITION, HERMÈS, 2010 (shown right), realized HK$375,000/US$48,149 against its low estimate of HK$70,000/US$8,988.
Other notable results included A RARE, SHINY OMBRÉ SALVATOR LIZARD BIRKIN 25 WITH GOLD HARDWARE, HERMÈS, 2007 (shown left), fetched HK$475,000/US$60,988, soaring beyond its low estimate of HK$180,000/US$23,111; A SHINY BLACK POROSUS CROCODILE SELLIER MINI KELLY 20 WITH GOLD HARDWARE, HERMÈS, 1994 (shown right), realized HK$437,500/US$56,173, more than doubling its low estimate of HK$150,000/US$19,259.
Lots that were sold doubling their low estimates included A LIMITED EDITION MULTICOLOR ROOSTER FEATHER, SHINY BLEU IZMIR ALLIGATOR & STERLING SILVER STROMBOLI Á PLUMES, HERMÈS, 2016 (shown left), achieved HK$200,000/US$25,679 against its low estimate of HK$100,000/US$12,840; A LIMITED EDITION MULTICOLOR SWIFT LEATHER ON A SUMMER DAY CONSTANCE 24 WITH PALLADIUM HARDWARE BY NIGEL PEAKE, HERMÈS, 2017 (shown right), sold HK$ 125,000/US$16,050 against its low estimate of HK$60,000/US$7,704.
