A Superb Colored Diamond Ring - Fancy vivid blue cushion-cut internally flawless diamond of 3.49 carats, Price Realized $5,495,000

NEW YORK — Luxury Week continued at Christie’s on Tuesday December 6th, with the Magnificent Jewels auction. The live sale took place at Christie’s Rockefeller Center in the heart of Manhattan with lively bidding on the phones and in the room and achieved a total of $38,135,080, with 90% of the 152 lots offered sold. The auction featured a dazzling array of rare diamonds, important colored stones, and signed jewels from notable collections. 

The sale was led by a fancy vivid blue cushion-cut internally flawless diamond ring of 3.49 carats which sold for $5,495,000. A fancy vivid yellowish orange VS2 clarity diamond ring of 5.16 carats, achieved $1,683,500. Rounding out the strong results for colored diamonds was a fancy greenish yellow VS2 clarity modified-cut diamond of 61.47 carats which realized $1,562,500.

Outstanding results were achieved throughout the sale for colored stones, with many lots exceeding their high estimates including an emerald-cut Kashmir sapphire ring of 23.00 carats, mounted by Cartier, which achieved $3,014,500, over three times its low estimate of $800,000; a cushion-cut Kashmir sapphire ring of 8.91 carats, by Tiffany & Co., which sold for $1,925,500; and a cushion-cut Burmese ruby ring of 7.31 carats, which realized $1,134,000. Notably, a pair of Tiffany & Co. sapphire and diamond earrings sold for $453,600, eleven times over their low estimate of $40,000. An emerald-cut emerald ring of 9.13 carats achieved $1,008,000, surpassing five times its low estimate. 

Additional noteworthy results were achieved for lots from distinguished private collections including a Van Cleef & Arpels multi-gem and diamond bracelet from the Collection of Adolphus Andrews, Jr. and Emily Taylor Andrews, which sold for $138,600 against a low estimate of $50,000, and an impressive Seaman Schepps Art Deco rock crystal, multi-gem and diamond bracelet from the Estate of Mary Lloyd Robb which sold for $144,900 against its low estimate of $40,000.

Jewelry auctions continue with Jewels Online, which is currently open for bidding through December 8th.
