PICASSO CERAMICS REALISED A TOTAL OF £1,883,826 / $2,292,616 / €2,160,748

London – Christie’s Picasso Ceramics sale realised a total of £1,883,826 / $2,292,616 / €2,160,748 selling 99% by lot and 100% by value.
The auction was led by Vase aztèque aux quatre visages (A.R. 402) (illustrated above left) which sold for £107,100 against a low estimate of £55,000.
Many lots saw strong results that far exceeded their estimates including Footballeur (A.R. 538) (illustrated above centre) which sold for £75,600 (estimate: £12,000-18,000). Other highlights include Lampe femme (A.R. 298) (illustrated above right), which realised more than five times its low estimate (£52,920); Tête au masque (A.R. 362), which achieved over three times its low estimate of £10,000 to sell for £30,240; and Visage au nez noir (A.R. 609) closing at £69,300 (estimate: £30,000-50,000).
Competition was visible across price points with Visage no. 72 (A.R. 474) selling for £18,900 against a low estimate of £3,000. Further highlights included Oiseau no. 91 (A.R. 485) which realised a total of £11,340 (estimates: £2,000-3,000); and Tête de chèvre de profil (A.R. 146), which achieved £23,940 against an estimate of £8,000.
2023 marks the 50th anniversary of Pablo Picasso’s death. Christie’s, as the leading auction house for works by Picasso, joins the art world in a global celebration of the artist and his legacy.
