ENERGY LINES: FABIENNE VERDIER
Le Bruit du Vent II (The Sound of Wind II) Fabienne Verdier, 2022 Acrylic and mixed media on canvas 50 x 46cm

Dubai - Christie’s Middle East is delighted to announce Energy Lines: Fabienne Verdier, a selling exhibition featuring a newly produced body of works by acclaimed contemporary French artist Fabienne Verdier in collaboration with Custot Gallery Dubai. Taking place from 9 – 19 February at Christie’s, DIFC, the exhibition will feature more than 15 works varying from monumental to smaller scale in this series, all of which serve as recollections, drawing inspiration from her memories of the natural world.

Fabienne worked for many months on creating the coloured background of each of the canvases in order  for the vibrations of the paint pigments to create fields of energetic vibrations which will ultimately vary throughout the changing light of each and every day. Energy Lines create a sense of the celestial, drawing on the lines of the mountains, clouds and dunes, to the ocean and fields beyond. Each canvas commands attention and conveys a fissure of energy with sweeps of vast bold colour forming a dramatic and exhilarating presence with a play between the oscillation of the pigments, the gravitation of the circular waveforms of the paint and the ricochet of paint drops. Within each work the lines, which appear static, are actually in constant motion. Fabienne has painted the green of the fields in Spring; the purple or pinks of the sky at dawn and the blues of a summer night.

Fabienne Verdier is an abstract painter who explores the dynamism of forces in nature, movement, and immobility by drawing on her intimate knowledge of techniques and traditions of both Western and Eastern art. Verdier paints vertically, standing directly on her stretchers, using giant brushes and tools of her own invention suspended from the studio ceiling. Her work combines Eastern aspects of unity, spontaneity, and asceticism with the line, action, and expression of Western painting.

Verdier’s work has been exhibited extensively in Beijing, Singapore, Taipei, Paris, Rome, Lausanne, Zurich, and Brussels, among many other cities. Energy Lines marks the first major solo exhibition of a new series in Dubai for the artist, after showcasing pieces of Voyage d’Hiver in Custot Gallery Dubai in 2022.

Suzy Sikorski, Specialist 20th/21st Century Contemporary and Middle Eastern Art comments, ‘It is an exciting focus for Christie’s Middle East to present a new body of work by Fabienne exclusively to our clients and to be working closely with Custot Gallery Dubai in realising this exhibition. Christie’s and Custot Gallery have a long standing and mutual commitment to showcase contemporary artists from around the world in Dubai for clients across the Gulf region and Fabienne’s works represent our passion and focus to bring global contemporary art and artists into the region in 2023’.

Stéphane Custot, Founder and owner, Custot Gallery Dubai (and Waddington Custot, London) comments, I am honoured to be able to  bring an entirely new body of work by Fabienne to Dubai accompanied by the artist herself.  Through this astounding new series of work Fabienne demonstrates her commitment and appreciation to explore the landscape and energy of the Middle East. Painted with sweeps of bold colour and gestures, a fissure of energy across canvas, the works command attention; drawing inspiration from the natural world: mountains, clouds, dunes, and the ocean, creating a sense of the celestial’.

Prices are available upon request only.  Estimates range from approximately US$50,000 to US$290,000
