CHRISTIE’S NEW YORK PRESENTS OUTSIDER ART

NEW YORK – Christie’s is pleased to announce the Outsider Art sale, taking place live in the auction house’s storied Rockefeller Center saleroom on Friday, 1 March 2024. This auction is a landmark moment, representing the 10th anniversary of a dedicated Outsider Art department at Christie’s New York. The selection on offer spans masterpiece-level objects by the category’s leading artists to outstanding works by up-and-coming names in the field. Notable lots include standout works by William Edmondson, Bill Traylor, Thornton Dial, and Adolf Wolfli. The sale’s top lot is Fox by Edmondson, estimated to achieve $200,000-400,000.
The sale features a fantastic group of objects from the collection of Robert M. Greenberg, which builds upon the collector’s first sale of Outsider Art with Christie’s that took place 21 years ago, prior to the category’s establishment. Another notable group of works come from the Blanchard collection, which will be sold in part to benefit the American Folk Art Museum.
Cara Zimmerman, Head of Outsider Art, Christie’s, remarks, “This season, we are pleased to present a rich and diverse selection that includes fine examples by top American artists including William Edmondson, Bill Traylor, Minnie Evans, and Winfred Rembert, as well as important works by European and Asian artists including Anna Zemankova, Adolf Wolfli, Guo Fengyi, Hiroyuki Doi and more.”
