NEW YORK – Christie’s New York is pleased to present Antiquities, a part of Classic Week, taking place 26 January 2023 at Rockefeller Plaza. The sale offers an impressive selection of works from ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Egypt and the Near Eastern cultures, ranging in date from the 3rd millennium B.C. to the 7th century A.D.

This auction will feature three important collections: the Collection of Dina and Raphael Recanati, Property from the Estate of Dr. Vallo Benjamin, and the Collection of Jack and Jane Weprin. The Recanati collection includes a diverse group of Egyptian, Roman and Eastern Mediterranean objects collected by the noted philanthropists in the mid-20th century. The Benjamin Collection contains a variety of Assyrian reliefs and cylinder seals. The sale will also include Part II of Ancient Glass from the Weprin Collection.

The sale is led by a rare Egyptian nummulitic limestone figure of an Amarna princess, from the New Kingdom and a large Egyptian Bronze Lion-Headed Goddess from the Estate of Joan R. Linclau. Other highlights include a Roman Marble Herm Portrait of the Philosopher Theophrastos, and an Attic Red-Figured Column-Krater depicting the abduction of Oreithyia by Boreas.
