Hong Kong – On 28 November 2023, a rare and historically important Sanyu masterpiece, Femme nue sur un tapis (Nude on Tapestry), achieved HK$187,375,000 / US$24,164,442 and exceeded its high estimate at Christie’s Hong Kong during the 20^th/21^st Century Art Evening Sale. With an electric atmosphere in the packed saleroom, the auction saw international participation from 24 countries, spanning 4 continents. After fierce competition, Nude on Tapestry was sold to a bidder in the room. This outstanding result demonstrates the resilience of the market and the enduring demand for seminal Chinese modern art. Nude on Tapestry was entrusted to Christie’s from the prestigious Dreyfus Collection, and its sale continues the auction house’s success in offering iconic Sanyu works.
