ROSA DE LA CRUZ, LONDON JEWELLERY DESIGNER AND ART COLLECTOR, CHOOSES FAVOURITE ARTWORKS FROM UPCOMING CHRISTIE’S 20TH CENTURY SALES
London - Ahead of the 20th Century Art Sales in London on 23 and 24 March, Christie’s has invited Rosa de la Cruz, collector and jewellery designer, to share her selection of works from the upcoming season. Having studied Art and Architecture while at the University of Pennsylvania, Rosa later worked on several design projects, including fashion, illustration and interior design. In 2000 she moved to London and started to design jewellery and then launched Rosa de la Cruz London. Rosa's home displays a unique collection of contemporary art and design including works by Peter Doig, Beatriz Milhazes, Christopher Wool, Glenn Ligon, Nate Lowman, Laura Owens, Chris Ofili, Wade Guyton, and Kelley Walker, Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouvé, and Jean Royère. The interior is the result of de la Cruz's 20-plus years as a collector. Rosa de la Cruz explains: “This selection showcases works that particularly appeal to my personal musings on ‘Beauty’”.
As part of her selection from the sales, she chose Claire Tabouret’s Les Madones Étude3 (The Madonna Study 3), 2014 (estimate : £20,000-30,000 illus. above top right). Tabouret is a French figurative painter, who depicts women and children in her works. She often paints a primary fluorescent layer with darker layers on top, as can be seen in Les Madones Étude3. Another highlight for De la Cruz from the Day Sale is Jammie Holmes’ portrait, Untitled (Aunt), 2020 (estimate: £35,000-55,000 illus. left). Holmes is an American artist inspired by the Deep South. Rosa de la Cruz chose these works alongside Shara Hughes’s I'm Tired, Harbor Me, 2009 (estimate: £100,000-150,000 illus. right), Roni Horn’s, Key and Cue, No.1350, 1996 (estimate: £30,000-50,000) and Rob Pruitt’s, Panda Slide, 2012 (estimate: £20,000-30,000) .
These art works are presented in an online viewing room alongside pieces by Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Beatriz Milhazes. The viewing room can be accessed here. The 20th Century Art Evening Sale will take place 23 March and the Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale will follow on 25 March at 1pm.
