Peter Horwood, Director Furniture Department: “The sale results demonstrate the allure of privately sourced items that are fresh to the market. There was good pre-sale interest stimulated by attractive estimates, and there was strong bidding on the telephones and on Christie’s LIVE. Classic English country house furniture and works of art exceeded expectations, including consignments from the late Mrs Barbara Overland of Mont Pellier, Jersey (lots 1 – 8) and from an Eaton Square apartment (lots 40 – 44), the latter including a beautiful and rare George I red japanned and gilt-decorated chest which realized £56,250. We look forward to our next sale, European Furniture and Works of Art – Design with Style, to be held at Christie’s, King Street, on 10 June 2015.”
