PRINTS AND MULTIPLES | 13 – 27 September

London – Christie's announces the September online Prints & Multiples sale, focusing on editions by leading 19th and 20th century masters. The auction has a particularly strong representation of Post-War American prints including Pop Art by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg and David Hockney, Abstract Expressionism by Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler and Brice Marden, together with Minimalism by Sol Lewitt.

The sale is led by a large group of iconic prints by Andy Warhol including Moonwalk (1981, estimate: £250,000-350,000), Marilyn Monroe (1967, estimate: £100,000-150,000), Shoes (1981, estimate: £70,000-100,000), Superman (1981, estimate: £150,000-250,000), and The Shadow (1981, estimate: £30,000-50,000), in which the artist casts himself as the mysterious comic superhero.

A rare impression of Vincent Van Gogh’s only etching L'Homme à la Pipe: Portrait du Docteur Gachet (1890, estimate: £70,000-100,000) depicts Dr. Paul Gachet, who taught the artist how to etch while in his care in the last few weeks of his life. Further highlights include Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s rare lithographic masterpiece La Grande Loge (1897, estimate: £200,000- 300,000). Depicting Madame Armande Brazier, proprietress of Au Hanneton, a popular lesbian bar in the Rue Pigalle, and the dancer Émilienne d’Alençon, it gives a fascinating glimpse into the queer subculture of fin-de-siècle Paris.

CONTEMPORARY EDITION | 12 – 28 September

London – Christie’s Contemporary Edition celebrates cutting-edge prints and multiples by established artists and sought after new talents working from the late-20^th century to the present day. This season the online-only sale has a strong focus on works by eminent British artists, including a number of exciting and rare works published by The Paragon Press such as Grayson Perry’s monumental The American Dream (Pink and Mauve) (2021, estimate:

£30,000-50,000) and The Map of Nowhere (Blue) (2008, estimate: £20,000-30,000) which are offered in colourways never seen before at auction.

Further highlights include Christopher Wool’s complete set of My House (2000, estimate:

£40,000-60,000), Yayoi Kusama’s Citrouille (I) (2000, estimate: £30,000-50,000), multiple colourways of Bansky’s Choose Your Weapon and a large selection of works by STIK, including colourways of Piggyback (Onbu), Walk and Liberty. There are also several exciting recent editions by artists including INVADER, Pejac, KAWS, Caroline Walker, David Shrigley and Jadé Fadojutimi.
