PRESS RELEASE | Christie’s Hong Kong presents IMPORTANT WATCHES Including The Titanium Collection and an Important Private Asian Collection Part 3

Live Auction│13 July22/F, Alexandra House, 18 Chater Road, Central
Jewellery, Watches & Handbags
Hong Kong APAC 27 May 2020

Hong Kong – Christie’s Important Watches confirms its live auction to be hosted on 13 July at Alexandra House, presenting over 300 lots led by the  “The Titanium Collection” – part of the most valuable single-owner collection of Patek Philippe timepieces ever offered in Asia (see full release here), as well as “An Important Private Asian Collection Part 3” which features modern and contemporary timepieces from various legendary manufacturers.

One of the most significant timepieces on offer is “Le Garde temps – Naissance d’une montre” (shown top right) - a formidable example created by Philippe Dufour, Greubel Forsey and Michel Boulanger. In 2007, the three legendary watchmakers decided to embark on a project, “Le Garde Temps, Naissance d'une Montre”, to teach one relatively young and talented watchmaker the skills to construct a watch entirely by hand. Michel Boulanger, a Paris-based watchmaking teacher,  was eventually selected to participate in the program. After  six years of research and painstaking collaborative work, a handmade tourbillon with the most authentic spirit of traditional watchmaking was finally born, making it one of the most desirable contemporary wristwatches of the decade.

The live auction features a superb selection of “tropical watches” with gorgeous patinas that have appeared on these dials over decades, developing unique contrasts, colors and variations of shades that have charmed the most savviest collectors. Leading this selection is an extremely attractive example of a Rolex reference 6263 with a stunning brown dial (shown top left).

Another highlight lot is a “fresh-to-market” and unique tourbillon Richard Mille wristwatch, reference RM017, made specifically upon request of an important private collector and inspired by the design of his unique Ferrari J50.
