Estimate: $1,200,000-1,800,000

NEW YORK – Christie’s is proud to present Post-War to Present, a live sale taking place Friday, September  29 at Christie’s storied Rockefeller Center saleroom in the heart of New York City. The sale is comprised of more than 280 artworks with a low estimate in excess of $27 million. The top lot of the sale is Abra I, a rich color-filled canvas by Frank Stella.

Among the many sale highlights are a group of pioneering female abstract painters of the Post-War era, including Helen Frankenthaler, Lynne Drexler, and Hedda Sterne. The sale also includes fantastic new perspectives on portraiture through the lens of contemporary artists, including examples by Amoako Boafo and Jenna Gribbon. Further enriching the sale’s offerings is a strong representation of Black artists from the 1960s through today, including important works by Noah Purifoy, Jack Whitten, and David Hammons, along with Joe Overstreet—appearing in a Christie’s sale for the first time—and Rick Lowe, whose work will be coming to auction for the first time in his career.

The first New York auction of the fall season, the Post-War to Present sale embodies expressive high points throughout the lineage of 20th and 21st century art. Highlights from the sale will be on view in Christie’s galleries from Saturday, September 23 through Thursday, September 28.
