CHRISTIE’S NEW YORK FIRST OPEN SALE TOTALS $4,312,350

NEW YORK – On Thursday, December 14, 2023, Christie’s New York closed out its final 20th and 21st century art auction of 2023 with the First Open | Post-War & Contemporary Art online sale realizing a total of $4,312,350, and selling for 70% by lot, 100 by value, and 82% against its low estimate. The sale saw lively participation from across the globe, with 15% of bidders and buyers new to Christie’s. The top lot of the sale was Rushing, a fantastic example by Kenneth Noland which sold for $176,400.
Exceptional prices were achieved for Elaine De Kooning’s Kaldis with Scarves and Jasper Johns’ 0-9, both of which surpassed their estimates to realize $138,600. Additional notable results came for Alexander Calder’s Autumn Leaves from the collection of William and Sahra Lese which sold for $126,000, more than six times its low estimate, Larry Rivers’ Drugstore II from the estate of Betty Weisberger which sold for $113,400, and Richard Pettibone’s Edward Ruscha, "Standard Station (with 10 cent Western Being Torn in Half, 1964)," 1963, which realized $100,800.
