Christie’s Hong Kong Wine Autumn Auctions 100% SoldCOMBINED SALE TOTAL OF HK$66,536,500/ US$8,574,160

Hong Kong – On 25 and 26 November, Christie’s Wine Department kickstarted the Hong Kong Autumn Auction Week with two white-glove sales: An Exceptional Private Cellar Featuring d’Auvenay, Macallan and Karuizawa, and Finest and Rarest Wines, realising a combined total of HK$66,536,500/ US$8,574,160, and a total hammer price of 172% over low estimate. Both sales attracted avid bidding via Christie’s LiveTM, with almost 40% of buyers bidding through this channel.
An Exceptional Private Cellar Featuring d’Auvenay, Macallan and Karuizawa was 100% sold after 8.5 hours of intense bidding, totalling HK$48,730,250/ US$6,279,575 and a hammer price of 177% over low estimate. The second live auction, Finest and Rarest Wines achieved HK$17,806,250 / US$2,294,585, and a total hammer price of 160% over low estimate. Both sales saw 80% of lots sold above their high estimates, further underpinning Christie’s strength in sourcing and offering the most prominent single-owner collections and various premium cellars in Asia.
Sale Highlights - An Exceptional Private Cellar Featuring d’Auvenay, Macallan and Karuizawa:
- Burgundy from Domaine D'Auvenay achieved a total hammer price of 269% over low estimate. The top lot was lot 5170 - Domaine d'Auvenay, Puligny-Montrachet En La Richarde 1999, 9 bottles per lot, which sold for HK$812,500/ US$104,702, more than tripling its pre-sale high estimate of HK$220,000/ US$28,350.
- The selection from Domaine Leroy attracted lively bidding, realising a hammer price of 181% over low estimate. The top lot was lot 5191 – Domaine Leroy, Clos de la Roche 2002, 12 bottles per lot, which sold for HK$812,500/ US$104,702.
- White Burgundy from Domaine Leflaive was highly coveted by collectors, hammering at 178% above low estimate. The top lot was lot 5451 – Domaine Leflaive, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet 1989, 6 bottles per lot, which sold for HK$106,250/ US$13,692.
- Bottles from Domaine Armand Rousseau achieved a total hammer price of 163% above low estimate, led by lot 5258 – Domaine Armand Rousseau, Chambertin 1999, 6 bottles per lot, which sold for HK$437,500/ US$56,738.
- The assortment of Domaine Méo-Camuzet achieved a hammer price of 159% over low estimate, led by lot 5314 – Domaine Méo-Camuzet, Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 2000, 8 bottles per lot, which sold for HK$137,500/ US$17,719.
- Demand for red Bordeaux from the First Growths remained robust, led by lot 5001 – Château Lafite-Rothschild 1982, 12 bottles per lot, which realised HK$400,000/ US$51,546, doubling its pre-sale low estimate.
- Remarkable prices were established for the large formats of Hermitage La Chapelle. All 18L bottles were sold, achieving a hammer price of 166% over low estimate. The top lot was lot 5466 – Paul Jaboulet Aîné, Hermitage La Chapelle 1999, 1 melchior (18L) per lot, which sold for HK$37,500/ US$4,832.
- The only Champagne lot in the sale drew fervent bidding, with lot 5469 – Salon, Le Mesnil 1973, 3 bottles per lot, realising HK$175,000/ US$22,551, almost quadrupling its pre-sale low estimate of HK$45,000/ US$5,799.
- Collectors showed strong appetite for The Macallan, with the collection hammering at 217% above low estimate. The top lot was lot 5471 – The Macallan 1952, 1 bottle per lot, which sold for HK$150,000/ US$19,330, tripling its pre-sale high estimate.
- Japanese whisky also drew heated bidding, achieving a total hammer price of 180% over low estimate. Leading this section was lot 5541 – Karuizawa 1965 – Streams Of Time #8852, 1 bottle (700ml) per lot, which sold for HK$600,000/ US$77,318, against its pre-sale low estimate of HK$320,000/ US$41,236.
Sale Highlights – Finest and Rarest Wines:
- DRC continued to fetch stellar results, achieving a total hammer price of 163% above low estimate, led by lot 6004 – Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti 2005, 3 bottles per lot, which sold for HK$687,500/ US$88,594.
- The assortment of Henri Jayer achieved a total hammer price of 138% above low estimate, and was led by lot 6111 – Henri Jayer, Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 1996, 3 magnums per lot, which sold for HK$687,500/ US$88,594.
- Le Pin also saw robust demand with a 165% hammer above low estimate. Leading this session was lot 6100 – Le Pin 2000, 6 bottles per lot, which sold for HK$300,000/ US$38,659.
- Wine lovers also bid enthusiastically for the selection of Domaine Leroy, achieving a 167% hammer above low estimate. The top lot was lot 6010 - Domaine Leroy Clos de Vougeot 2015, 12 bottles per lot, which sold for HK$812,500/ US$104,702.
