Hong Kong – On 24 and 25 May, Christie’s Hong Kong held two live wine and spirits auctions – “Finest and Rarest Wines: Featuring Four Stunning Cellars & Library Vintages Direct from Château Léoville Poyferré” and “An Exceptional Private Cellar Part II”, realising a combined sale total of HK$52,899,375 / US$6,784,906. There was spirited global bidding across both sales, with participation from 18 countries spanning 4 continents, and 63% of lots sold online through Christie’s LiveTM. The series attracted a significant number of new buyers to Christie’s, driven by millennials who made up 47% of all new buyers. A Dazzling DRC Collection from a French Private Cellar and A Blue-Chip Burgundy Collection Purchased on Release online sales continue to welcome bidding until 7 June.

Michelle Chan, Head of Wine, Christie’s Asia Pacific commented, “We are delighted with the excellent results and international participation our diverse wine and spirits sales witnessed this season, demonstrating Hong Kong’s continued strength as an international hub for wine collecting. Our excellent track record of offering the world’s most prominent single-owner collections remains unabated with the sale of An Exceptional Private Cellar Part II, which resulted in almost half of lots sold exceeding their high estimates. Large formats from prestigious châteaus led the wine in both auctions, and an ultra-rare methuselah of La Tâche was met with great enthusiasm from bidders. The appeal of bottles with excellent provenance also shone – every bottle from a collection direct from Château Léoville Poyferré was sold, as was a selection of Château Haut-Brion with a very special royal history. We continue to cultivate the market for whiskey in Asia — the exceptional offering from The Macallan was 100% sold and the full set of Karuizawa 36 Views of Mount Fuji realised over HK$1 million. Wine collectors and enthusiasts still have the chance to acquire rare and exquisite bottles through our two online auctions of single-owner collections.”

SALE HIGHLIGHTS OF “FINEST AND RAREST WINES: FEATURING FOUR STUNNING CELLARS & LIBRARY VINTAGES DIRECT FROM CHÂTEAU LÉOVILLE POYFERRÉ” LIVE AUCTION:

  • Excellent provenance continues to appeal – vintages direct from Château Léoville Poyferré and Château Haut-Brion previously from The Personal Cellars of H.R.H. Prince Robert de Luxembourg Friends & Family were 100% sold.

  • The allure of large formats from esteemed châteaus was demonstrated — Bordeaux magnums from Château Mouton-Rothschild and Le Pin led the sale.
