Hong Kong – Christie’s Asian Art live auctions in Hong Kong realised a combined sale total of HK$918,166,390
/ US$118,105,947. A diverse curation by Christie’s specialist team was offered this season, featuring esteemed
private collections of outstanding quality and provenance. Rare Yuan Dynasty Chinese ceramics and works of
art, as well as fresh-to-market Chinese paintings spanning from the 8th to 19th centuries, were among this
season’s offerings. Christie’s is delighted to have witnessed a significant appreciation for the exceptional quality
and artistic significance of these sales.
The series of Asian Art online sales, including Ceramics and Works of Art from the Yidetang Collection and
Pavilion Online - Chinese Art will both continue until 5 December, and Cultured Legacy: Chinese Paintings and
Calligraphy from the Chang Shiu Sig and Tung Shui Wah Collection will continue until 6 December.

On 30 November, Christie’s Hong Kong Chinese Ceramics & Works of Art Department held two live auctions,
The Tianminlou Collection, and Important Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, achieving a combined autumn
sale total of HK$524,184,390 (US$67,526,744), and affirmed market leadership in Asia for the category this
season. Christie’s continued its stewardship of the world’s most esteemed private collections with the magnificent
The Tianminlou Collection, which incited a tremendous response from bidders, and achieved HK$260,440,000
(US$33,550,532), with over 70% of sold lots surpassing their high estimates. The results across the two live
sales attest to the strength of curation by Christie’s specialists and astute pricing strategy, and the superb quality
and provenance of the objects presented. Younger collectors continued to demonstrate their appreciation for
this classical Asian art category – over 40% of new buyers this season were Millennials.

On 1 and 2 December, Christie’s Hong Kong presented two live auctions Fine Chinese Modern and
Contemporary Ink Paintings and Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy, which achieved a combined
total of HK$393,982,000 (US$50,678,850), and contributed to the second highest Hong Kong autumn sale total
for the category Asia since 2018. Amongst the masterpieces offered, the top lot was Wu Guanzhong’s A Hill City
which realised HK$43,935,000 (US$5,665,989) and was sold to an online bidder. This season, Fine Chinese
Classical Paintings and Calligraphy saw Millennials comprise 50% of new buyers, demonstrating the high
desirability and value of these extraordinary Chinese paintings amongst the younger generation.
