which sold for HK$78,125,000 / US$10,075,234 during Christie’s 20th/21st Century Art Evening Sale in Hong Kong 

 

Hong Kong – From 28 – 29 November 2023, Christie’s Hong Kong presented a series of four live 20th and 21st
Century Art auctions — the 20th/21st Century Art Evening Sale and the Post-Millennium Evening Sale, a Collab 
with Jay Chou, followed by the 20th Century Art Day Sale and 21st Century Art Day Sale – which achieved a 
combined sale total of HK$1.05B / US$136M. Christie’s vibrant sale curation and solid pricing strategy achieved
a strong sell-through rate of close to 90% by lot, led by Sanyu’s masterpiece Femme nue sur un tapis (Nude on 
Tapestry) which achieved over HK$187,375,000 / US$24,164,442. All paintings by Yayoi Kusama were 100% 
sold, led by A Flower which sold for HK$78,125,000 / US$10,075,234, the second highest auction price for the 
artist. There was global participation from 34 countries across 6 continents. Millennials accounted for over 40% 
of new buyers overall, and 67% of Evening Sale new buyers. The results throughout the series, for Eastern and 
Western works, reflect the strength of the market in Asia for outstanding 20th and 21st century art.
