THE ONLINE PRINTS SEASON REALISED A COMBINED TOTAL OF £7,631,250 / $9,912,774 / €8,787,798
• The Prints & Multiples online sale was led by Andy Warhol’s Queen Elizabeth II, from: Reigning Queens (Royal Edition), at £275,000, a record for a screen print with this subject matter by the artist at auction
• A record was also achieved by Contrejour in the French Style, by David Hockney, a record price for an etching of this subject matter by the artist sold at auction
• Prints and Multiples by David Hockney, Andy Warhol, William Kentridge, Henri Matisse, and STIK all exceeded their pre-sale expectations
London – The Prints & Multiples Online Sale realised a total of £3,170,000 / $4,403,130 / €3,693,050, selling 94.22% by lot and was led by Andy Warhol, Queen Elizabeth II, from: Reigning Queens (Royal Edition), 1985 which sold for a £275,000, a record for a screen print with this subject matter by the artist at auction. An auction record was also achieved for Contrejour in the French Style, a record price for an etching of this subject matter by David Hockney, selling for more than double its high estimate at £93,750 (estimate £26,000 - 35,000). The online auction saw strong prices which, exceeded pre-sale expectations for a number of artists: STIK’s, Plaque (Red), Plaque (Orange), Plaque (Yellow) selling for £68,750 (estimate: £15,000 - 25,000); Andy Warhol’s, Queen Elizabeth II, from: Reigning Queens which sold for £162,500 (estimate: £70,000 - 100,000), and Sunset which sold for £118,750 (estimate: £50,000 - 70,000); Roy Lichtenstein’s, Red Lamp which sold for £47,500 (estimate: £ 8,000 -
12,000); and William Kentridge’s, Sleeper Red, from: Sleeper Series which sold for £52,500 (estimate: £25,000-35,000).
Further highlights include prints by Henri Matisse from the Estate of Jacquelyn Miller Matisse, among them, La Pompadour which sold for £15,000 (estimate: £3,500 - 4,500) and Primavera realising £ 13,750 (estimate: £4,500 - 5,500). Works from the collection of Michael Abrams, son of the New York art book publisher and collector also sold well, led by James Rosenquist’s, Marilyn which realised £6,875. The fourth edition of the ‘Banksy: I can’t believe you morons actually buy this sh*t’ online sale realised a total of £4,461,250 / $5,509,644 / €5,094,748, selling 93.62 % by lot.
