Paris - Christie's presented the Handbags Online: The Paris Edit sale, a selection of exceptionally rare and legendary bags, until 14 November. For the occasion, Christie's offered three exceptional and unique Made-to-Treasure Bamboo bags from Gucci each revisited with the finest techniques of Italian artistry, offering unique versions of the iconic handle standing for the house’s past, present and future. Coherently with the ethos of Gucci Vault, the brand’s experimental space in pursuit of precious wonders that go beyond the confines of time, Gucci has hand-picked and hand-crafted three spectacular rarities for Christie’s Handbags Online: The Paris edit.
The sale totalled €2,7 million | $2,8million. The highlight of the sale was a reinterpretation of Gucci's Bamboo bag, a unique collector's item reflecting the craftsmanship and spirit of Gucci's fine jewellery collection, with an 18-carat gold handle encrusted with 927 diamonds. The bag fetched €138,600, the highest price for a Gucci bag ever sold at auction. Gucci will donate the proceeds from the sale of the three Bamboo bags to Save Venice, the leading American non-profit organisation dedicated to preserving the artistic heritage of Venice, Italy.
