Paris - At Christie's, Hong Kong and Paris share the international calendar of autumn sales of Asian Art. In Hong Kong in November, the annual programme of sales of classical Chinese art was rounded off by exceptional sales of collections (Tianminlou Collection).
In Paris, with the success of the Printemps Asiatique event in June, during which Christie's exhibited lots sold in both cities, Paris has become a key venue in the fully globalised Asian art market. For the sale on 12 December and the online sale from 30 November to 14 December, Christie's brought together objects from collections in France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Japan, Taiwan and the United States. Lot essay : The present figure is a paragon of Newari gilt-copper imagery, dated to the earliest years of the Malla period, widely considered the high point of Nepalese art. The Newaris, the traditional inhabitants of the Kathmandu Valley, were the master metal casters of the period, and their services were patronized far and wide, including at the imperial workshops of the Yuan dynasty in Beijing.
