Hong Kong – On 23rd November, Christie’s Fine & Rare Wines and Spirits Featuring an Exceptional Private Collection and a Collection of Century Old Madeira auction totaled HK$28,919,750 /US$3,714,595, and achieved an excellent overall sell-through rate of 84% by lot and 89% by value. The sale attracted global interest from over 13 countries across 4 continents and attracted new registrants to Christie’s.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti led the sale, contributing the top two lots.  Romanée-Conti Grand Cru 1999, an exceptionally rare six-bottle case of Burgundy, was the top lot of the sale, achieving a total of HK$937,500/US$120,417. This was followed by Romanée-Conti Grand Cru 1989, which realised a total of HK$750,000/US$96,334. Rounding out the top 3 lots was Château Mouton Rothschild 1945, one of the finest and rarest Bordeaux, which realized a final hammer price of HK$625,000/US$80,278.

The spirits section of the auction was led by the Karuizawa “Aqua of Life” 50 Year Old, which sold above its high estimate, for HK$525,000/US$67,434, and was the fourth top lot of the sale. Also offered at the sale was a magnificent private collection of the finest Mosel wines from Egon Müller and JJ Prüm, including the legendary 1975, 1976 and 1983 vintages, as well as a selection of the best and rarest Madeiras dating back to 1801, which also held strong appeal for collectors from around the globe.

The exceptional result realised for Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grand Cru 1999 indicates that the finest Burgundy continue to attract the attention of wine connoisseurs and collectors. Japanese whiskies remain highly coveted, as we saw from the stellar sale result for the Karuizawa “Aqua of Life” 50 Year old. Overall, we have seen sustained purchase activity, and we hope to see this encouraging momentum carried forward to our Fine & Rare Wines Sale in London on November 28th – 29th, and also our Finest and Rarest Wines & Spirits Sale in New York on December 13th “ .
