Chris Munro, Head of London Wine Department commented: “A superb end to 2014 for the London Wine department. Spirits dominated the sale as a rare 32 bottle vertical of The Macallan 1955 to 1986 smashed its pre-sale estimate of £15,000 to £20,000, selling to a private online bidder from Hong Kong for £30,550. 16 bottles of Harewood Rum realised an outstanding total of £135,713, achieving world record prices for bottles of the Harewood Rum "Dark" 1780 which made £11,162 each. This brings the combined total of the Harewood Rum Collection; including 12 bottles offered in December 2013 to £213,972. Elsewhere in the sale we saw competitive bidding for the very finest wines from Bordeaux and Burgundy as a rare case of iconic Pomerol Le Pin 1989 sold for £28,850 against a pre-sale estimate of £15,000 to £20,000. Other highlights included a full case of Petrus 1989 which realised £32,900. We look forward to our next wine sale in New York on 13 December 2014.”
