Results – Christie’s Wine & Spirits Online (17 September – 1 October) achieves a total of $1,408,638 with 100% sold by value and 84% sold by lot. The sale attracted 35% new registrants and witnessed global bidding across five continents.
The top lot of the sale was a bottle of Macallan Millennium 50 Year Old, distilled in January 1949, bottled in August 1999, and offered in its original presentation box, which sold for $35,000. Other notable results include cases from the celebrated 1989 vintage of Château Latour that doubled initial estimates selling for $8,124 and Château Haut-Brion which achieved $25,000. Additionally featured was a rare imperial of Jacques Prieur Montrachet 1999 created as a special request from Windows of the World, the restaurant in the north tower of the World Trade Center, that sold for $3,250. California producers also achieved impressive results including three bottles of Screaming Eagle that sold for $8,750.
Rounding out the September sale was a robust selection of whiskies, American, Irish, and Scottish. Notable results included a bottle of Macallan, 29 Year Old 1976 that achieved $17,500, and a special bottle from Kentucky Owl with their limited edition batch blend, Dry State, marking 100 years since the start of Prohibition that sold for $1,625 with one hundred percent of proceeds designated to the National Restaurant Association's Employee Advancement Fund.
