Hong Kong – On 5 December, Christie’s Hong Kong wrapped up the Autumn Auctions season with two wine sales:
A Wonderful Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Collection, which achieved HK$20,545,000 / US$2,662,214 and was 100% sold and 25% above pre-sale high estimate. The second auction Finest & Rarest Wines and Spirits Including A Magnificent Collection of Karuizawa fetched HK$25,608,625 / US$3,318,356, with 96% sold by lot and 137% over the pre-sale low estimate. The saleroom attracted intense bidding from wine connoisseurs across the world via all sale channels, with almost 30% of lots sold via Christie’s LiveTM.
Sale Highlights:
A Wonderful Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Collection
The selection of Montrachet vintages drew heated bidding in the region, with the sale totals achieving 1.56 times over pre-sale low estimates. The top lot in this group was Montrachet 2005, 6 bottles per lot which sold for HK$500,000/ US$64,790.
Another noteworthy highlight was Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Montrachet 2011, 3 bottles per lot, which realised HK$250,000/ US$32,395, more than doubling its pre-sale low estimate.
Finest & Rarest Wines and Spirits Including A Magnificent Collection of Karuizawa
- The selection of German Wine from Egon Müller attracted heated bidding and was all sold. Leading this group was Egon Müller, Scharzhofberger Auslese, 6 bottles per lot, which sold for HK$87,500/ US$11,338, more than 4 times over its pre-sale low estimate.
- The assortment of rare Penfolds Grange vintages performed very well, led by the inaugural 1951 vintage which was never commercially released, realising HK$237,500/ US$30,775.
- Armand Rousseau wines were also 100% sold, and the top lot of this session was Domaine Armand Rousseau, Chambertin 2015, 3 bottles per lot, which sold for HK$68,750/ US$8,909.
- Scottish and Japanese single-malt whiskies were highly sought after by Greater China collectors and were 100% sold. Leading this session was Karuizawa Blue & Gold Geisha 40 Year Old, 2 bottles (700ml) per lot, achieving HK$325,000/ US$42,113.
- The small selection of Juyondai premium sake lots was also all sold. Leading this section was Juyondai Ryusen Hakuunkyorai, 4 bottles (720ml) per lot, which realised HK$47,500/ US$6,155.
