The sales achieved exceptional results for leading Asian masters, in particular for Vietnamese artists, with major artist records for Yoshitomo Nara, Le Pho, Jia Aili and Yao Shou.
The 20th Century & Contemporary Art auction series attracted buying from around the world, as collectors responded enthusiastically to the international curation strategy and unique themes. The results were one of the strongest ever recorded and set new benchmarks for Japanese and Contemporary artists.
Francis Belin, President, Christie’s Asia Pacific commented: “This season, collectors remained discerning with a keen eye, establishing outstanding prices for works of art across categories. They responded resoundingly to innovatively curated sales which offered a fresh approach to collecting as well as to the largest collection of Western art offered to date. Once again, Christie’s continues to excel in offering exceptional private collections, such as the Maharajas and Mughal Magnificence which will be offered on 19 June in New York, as well as The Tuan Pham Collection of Vietnamese art and The Chokaido Museum Collection which were both 100% sold this season. We were also thrilled by the strong public turnout through the week, testament to unrivalled selection of international exhibitions and events offered as unique opportunities for cultural enrichment for the wider public.”
