RESULTS | Christie’s Finest and Rarest Wines and Spirits Spring Auctions 2019 Totaled HK$58,017,250 /US$7,438,109
Hong Kong – On 24th and 25th May, Christie’s Finest & Rarest Wines and Spirits Featuring Prestigious Collections & Exceptional Whisky auctions totaled HK$58,017,250/US$7,438,109 with an exceptional sell-through rate of 85% by lot and 91% by value. The sales attracted global interest from over 20 countries across four continents and welcomed new registrants. A total of 15% of the 1717 lots saw online activity, the highest, since we are holding wine auctions in Hong Kong. The sale, which offered 1717 lots took 20 hours – a record for any Christie’s wine sale in Hong Kong.
Christie’s first sale dedicated to whisky in Asia was 100% sold, achieving HK$3,898,750 /US$499,840 against its low estimate of HK$1.9 million, with lot 5477, composed of 10 bottles of Macallan Single Malt Vertical 1960-1969, selling for HK$525,000/ US$67,308 and becoming the top lot of the sale followed in third position by lot 5496 - Karuizawa Geisha collection 1999-2000 (5 bottles) realizing HK$475,000 / US$60,898.
The overall Top Lot of the 2-day sale was lot 6505 two Magnums of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, 1999, Grand Cru, Cote des Nuits, which realized HK$875,000/US$112,180. Also, on offer were six prestigious private collections of exceptional wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhône, Australia, Champagne, Italy, California, Chile, Madeira and Germany. Each of these collections achieved strong results.
