RESULTS | Christie's Finest & Rarest Wines and Spirits totals $2.9 million, December 13
New York – Christie’s New York Finest & Rarest Wines and Spirits on December 13, 2019 totaled $2,957,438 with 92% sold by value and 88% sold by lot. The top lot of the sale was 12 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Assortment 1978, which realized $37,500.
The sale commenced with The Property of a Gentleman (Lots 1-212), one of the most comprehensive private collections of Château Lafite-Rothschild to appear at auction, led by a consignment directly removed from the Château. The collection performed with exceptional results realizing 110% above the estimate.
Rare Burgundy achieved strong results with Domaine Fourrier direct from the Domaine (Lots 213-259) surpassing estimates and the selection of Rare DRC including an Assortment Case from the 1978 Vintage (Lots 262—264) achieving impressive prices. The Ultimate Bordeaux and Californian Cabernet Collection (Lots 272-733) realized outstanding prices for Bordeaux First Growths alongside important Californian gems including 9 bottles of the Harlan Estate 2013 realizing $7,500.
Additionally, the two exceptional collections of rare Madeira (Lots 839-909; Lots 910-961) dating from 1760 through to 1952, received considerable attention with 2 bottles of the Rufino Teixeira, Malvasia 1814, selling for $11,875. The selection of rare pre-prohibition whiskey (Lots 976-983), achieved spectacular prices with 24 pints of Hermitage Whiskey Bottled in Bond 9 Years Old 1914 selling for $8,750.
