“The 100% sold-through rate of Chinese Contemporary Design, a new category of global collecting which celebrated a fusion of history and modernity, demonstrated the strong demand and maturity of the market of design, the resurgence of interests in revisiting the Chinese roots. Local and international collectors all showed their appreciation for the top quality Chinese craftsmanship. The auction kicked off strong with a white eggshell porcelain bowl, which achieved four times of its original estimates. Above 70% of the lots were sold well above estimates. This is a remarkable step which underlines Christie’s commitment to innovation in the dynamic art market of today,” said Géraldine Lenain, International Head of Christie's Chinese Ceramics & Works of Art Department.
