“Diversity was the muse of the evening as collectors from across the world celebrated Asian art. A total of eleven new auction records were set for Chinese, Filipino, Japanese and Korean artists, demonstrating collectors’ enthusiasm for Asian modern and contemporary art. Equally notable was the passion for Asian abstract art. Korean modern and contemporary art works presented in the auction were 100% sold while art of the Japanese Gutai movement also attracted bidders from across Asia. Chinese 20th century paintings achieved robust results, led by Sanyu’s masterpiece, one of the artist’s rare “blue” paintings, ‘Chrysanthemums in a Glass Vase’, which realised HK$81.9 million / US$10.6 million.” said Eric Chang, International Director of Christie’s Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art Department.
