CHRISTIE’S HONG KONG AUCTION OF IMPORTANT WATCHES

Hong Kong Highlighted by an exceptionally rare platinum and diamond-set ‘Tourbillon Souverain’ wristwatch created by independent watchmaker F.P. Journe circa 2008 (estimate: HK$3.2-6.4 million / US$420,000-830,000; illustrated above), Christie’s Hong Kong auction of Important Watches, to be held on 30 November, will feature some 500 lots.

The world’s most sought-after brands will be extensively represented with an unrivalled selection of Patek Philippe timepieces including the brand’s most iconic and rarest chronograph: the reference 2499. The example on offer at Christie’s, a yellow gold perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch with moon phases is from the prestigious 4th series manufactured in 1980 (estimate: HK$2.8-4 million / US$370,000-520,000).

An equally exciting selection will be dedicated to the best independent watchmakers of our time, comprising top quality wristwatches of innovative designs and technology manufactured by F.P. Journe, MB&F, De Bethune, Richard Mille and Maîtres du Temps to name but a few.

To mark the 260th anniversary of Vacheron Constantin, a special collection of 66 timepieces has been assembled including some of the most significant models produced by the legendary Swiss manufacturer throughout its long history.

Frederic Watrelot, Head of Christie’s Asia Watch Department: “Christie’s November sale of important watches will be a celebration of innovation, heritage, expertise and artistry of the world’s most prestigious manufacturers. We have selected some 500 top quality timepieces ranging from highly complicated models by Patek Philippe to the pioneering designs and technological advances of independent watchmakers. This year also marks the 260th anniversary of Vacheron Constantin and to celebrate this occasion, Christie’s specialists curated a special section of 66 watches dedicated to a brand that has made such a significant contribution to the history of horology”.
