Hong Kong – Christie’s Fine & Rare Wines Auctions presents the most desirable of Burgundy and Bordeaux wines and highly sought after bottles from around the globe in a two-part wine sale on 30 May. Some 675 lots from across classic wine regions as well as exciting New World wine country will be auctioned, totaling HK$20million/US$2.7million. Other exceptional wine on auction feature top quality Rhône and Chablis wine backed by impeccable provenance, coming direct from the cellars of E.Guigal in Ampuis and Domaine Laroche in Chablis.

 

 

FEATURING ESTEEMED CONNOISSEUR MR YAP CHEE MENG’S PRIVATE COLLECTION

With a representation of all Bordeaux First Growths, Christie’s offers a single owner collection straight from the cellars of a wine enthusiast of over three decades. Former KPMG Asia Pacific Chief Operating Officer and retired Chartered Accountant, Mr Yap Chee Meng’s says of his love for fine wine,

 

“Wine is a passion and I am careful about provenance. I don’t think I can stop collecting. This sale will allow me to continue to do so and at the same time, offer fellow collectors accessibility to some interesting bottles which they can share with friends”.  

The provenance of his collection is unparalleled as most of the wines are acquired directly from the producers or upon release.The collection comprises some of the most desirable Burgundy and Bordeaux from well-known producers, including those which are made in very limited quantities such as DRC’s Grand Crus, Chambertins from Rousseau, Musigny from Roumier, Faiveley, Jadot and J.F. Mugnier, La Romanée from Liger-Belair, Montrachet from Lafon, Le Pin, Pétrus, Ausone, and Haut Brion Blanc. All the Bordeaux First Growths are represented. There are also cult wines from the Rhône, Australia, Spain and USA as well as highly sought-after bottles from Champagne, the Loire, the Mosel and Italy.

 

FINE CHABLIS DIRECT FROM DOMAINE LAROCHE INCLUDING A CHARITY LOT SOLD TO BENEFIT OPERATION SMILE

  

The name Domaine Laroche is virtually synonymous with Chablis. For three generations, Domaine Laroche has been dedicated to producing top quality wines from the Chablis region. Direct from the Domaine Laroche cellars in Chablis, this fine selection is offered with no reserves. Chablis' Grand Cru and Premier Cru Chardonnay vineyards are planted primarily on the region’s unique Kimmeridgian soil which contributes to the distinctively mineral and flinty characters, steely, floral bouquet, delicate and crisp with refined flavors and elegance of these wines that have become so prized throughout the world.

Highlights from this selection include three 2006 to 2011 Vertical Vintage Magnum Collections of Chablis Grand Cru Les Blanchots, three 2006 to 2010 Vertical Vintage Magnum Collections of Reserve de l'Obedience Chablis Grand Cru Les Blanchots. For a good cause with proceeds going to Operation Smile, 6 bottles of Chablis Grand Cru Les Blanchots 1987 and a once-in-a-lifetime experience visit for two to Domaine Laroche in Chablis will also be auctioned. This includes a gourmet lunch, cellar tasting, vineyard visits plus flights from Hong Kong and accommodation expenses. Money raised by Operation Smile China Medical Mission provides free surgeries for underprivileged children with cleft lips/palates in China.  


 

OUTSTANDING RHÔNE DIRECT FROM THE CELLARS OF E.GUIGAL

 

With perfect provenance direct from the cellars of E. Guigal in Ampuis, these exquisite wines were collected and flown to Hong Kong under temperature and humidity controlled conditions. Highlights in the sale include unique 12 vintage vertical collections from 2011 back to 2000 of their Côte-Rôties; “Château d’Ampuis”, “La Mouline”, “La Turque” & “La Landonne”; all bottles are individually signed by both Marcel & Philippe Guigal and packed into exclusive original wooden cases. Also featured are the extremely rare and rarely ever seen on the open market “Hommage à Etienne Guigal” 1989, 1990 & 2005 in bottles and magnums.
