Release | Christie's Wine & Spirits Online New York, 17 September to 1 October 2020
New York – After the record-breaking success of the Benjamin Ichinose Collection sold online in July, Christie’s New York is delighted to present Christie’s Wine & Spirits Online (17 September – 1 October). This exceptional online sale features an impressive array of over 500 lots brimming with must-haves of excellent provenance.
As is the Christie’s way, First Growths abound. Lafite, Mouton, Haut-Brion, Latour, Margaux, La Mission, Cheval Blanc, and Petrus are represented alongside many of their top rated Bordeaux brethren. Featured lots include cases from the celebrated 1989 vintage of Château Latour ($4,000-$6,000) and Château Haut-Brion ($14,000-$19,000). Top tier Burgundy from the likes of DRC, René Engel, and Jacques Prieur will entice any Pinotphile. Featured is a rare imperial of Jacques Prieur Montrachet 1999 ($3,000-5,000). The 1999 vintage was the first time Domaine Jacques Prieur bottled a 6-liter of that wine, as a special request from Windows of the World, the restaurant in the north tower of the World Trade Center. Prieur was waiting for a great vintage; so when ‘99 arrived, it was perfect. Sadly, when the wines arrived in New York at the end of 2001, the restaurant was gone. The three 6-liter bottles that were produced became available for purchase in 2005.
Also featured are some of the most treasured California producers, including Screaming Eagle, Scarecrow, Opus One, Dominus, and Harlan. Additionally from California, there is a section of highly collectible lots from Premiere Napa Valley showcasing special bottlings usually only available to trade buyers at their annual, private auction. Premiere Napa Valley offers limited edition, small production (60-240 bottles), one-of-a-kind cuvées from celebrated California producers.
Rounding out the September sale is a robust selection of whiskies, American, Irish, and Scottish. A substantial offering of Macallan, Springbank, and Bowmore is presented alongside Midelton Very Rare Irish whiskey, Pappy Van Winkle and W.L Weller. This auction also includes a special offering from Kentucky Owl with their limited edition batch blend, Dry State, marking 100 years since the start of Prohibition. One hundred percent of proceeds from the five lots will be designated to the National Restaurant Association's Employee Advancement Fund.
