CHRISTIE’S HONG KONG AUTUMN AUCTIONS 2015
Public Viewing: 26 November - 1 December | Auctions: 27 November - 2 December
Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, No. 1 Harbour Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong
HONG KONG, 2 October 2015 -- Christie’s Hong Kong is pleased to announce its upcoming HONG KONG AUTUMN AUCTIONS which will be held from 27 November to 2 December 2015, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
This landmark event in the regional art scene features a vast range of exquisite treasures that bear historical significance and distinguished provenance. Over 3000 lots are expected to be presented at this season’s sales, with key categories including Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art, Chinese Classical and Modern Paintings, Chinese Ceramics and Works of Arts, as well as a full array of luxury pieces spanning Magnificent Jewels, Important Watches, Fine and Rare Wine and Handbags and Accessories.
François Curiel, Chairman of Christie’s Asia Pacific, said, “In recent years the art ecology in Asia has been gradually transforming. We see the flourishing of emerging artists; new museums and galleries opening across Asian cities; and an increasing interest in art appreciation amongst the young generation. As a global leader in the art business, our biannual auctions in Hong Kong provide more than just a platform for avid collectors. It is also an occasion through which we see the convergence of these new dynamics on art and cultural appreciation, which is very exciting.”
Rebecca Wei, President of Christie’s Asia, said, “Beginning in October, we will roll out a series of events and activities throughout the auction season, including tours to seven cities and private sale exhibitions. This season, Christie’s will present a Special Sale of Singapore Art to commemorate the country’s 50th anniversary of independence. Meanwhile, we will also be offering the most comprehensive private collection of Song ceramics ever to appear at an auction. Known as The Linyushanren Collection, it comprises some of the most exquisite pieces created during the Song Dynasty (907-1279).”
During the same week, Christie’s will also present a landmark The Art of Music Private Selling Exhibition, offering in total seven violins and one cello produced by Antonio Stradivari and Giuseppe Bartolomeo Guarneri, two of the greatest artisans in the history of string instruments.
In its 2015 Spring Sales, Christie’s realized a total sales of HKD3.22bn, with over 60 auction records broken across categories.
