Release | Christie's Fine & Rare Wines and Spirits Including Historic Madeira Direct from the Island, 10-24 November 2020

Wines & Spirits
New York Americas 30 October 2020

New York – The Christie’s Wine & Spirits Department in New York is pleased to announce the online sale Fine & Rare Wines and Spirits Including Historic Madeira Direct from the Island (10-24 November).

Highlighting the sale is a superb selection of over 130 lots of rare Madeira (lots 412-548), the largest offering of its kind ever to be sold in an online auction with each bottle having exceptional provenance. Of special note are bottles recently found in the old cellar of Henriques & Henriques, rare bottlings from the old Teixeira family stock, and historic very rare Madeiras from the Borges family reserves. With Madeira dating back to 1720, this auction represents a chance to acquire historic bottles never before seen for sale. With perfect provenance direct from some of the Islands most notable families – it is truly a unique offering of some of the greatest wines the Island of Madeira has to offer.

In addition to the treasure trove of Madeira, this auction offers some fantastic Pre-Prohibition bottles that are standouts. An incredibly rare case of 1903 Mount Vernon Rye ($15,000-26,000) offered in its original wooden case and a demijohn of 1905 Twoplex Rye Whiskey ($8,000-14,000) in a wooden crate are two examples of hidden treasures now offered at auction. The entire whisky section is robust, with bottles from iconic producers all around the world, Scotland, the United States, Canada, and Japan.

The sale is rounded out by an ample offering of Bordeaux. Specifically important to note are several large format bottles of must have vintages, such as double magnums of Petrus 1990 ($15,000-20,000) and imperials of Cristal 1990 Millennium Cuvée ($5,000-8,000 3,000-5,000) and Yquem 1988 ($2,600-3,500), and three Jeroboams of Bollinger 1965 ($8,000-14,000). First Growths abound, so collectors need not look any further for desirable gems and collectible rarities.
