Press Release: Christie's appoints new Managing Director for China
China – Christie’s announces the appointment of Charlotte Liu as Managing Director for China, with immediate effect. Based in Shanghai, Charlotte will be reporting to Rebecca Wei, President of Christie’s Asia.
Charlotte brings with her over two decades of international experience in Publishing, Education and Consulting sectors in China, U.S. and Canada. Most recently, she was President of Greater China at Springer Nature, a top global research and educational publisher, where she established the company in the region, led a successful expansion, delivered robust business performance and built a strong reputation in the market. Before her return to China in 2011, she worked for global publishing and financial information provider McGraw-Hill Companies in the US in roles covering marketing, product development and strategy. Earlier in her career she worked at the management consultancy Boston Consulting Group.
As a global leader that offers the most comprehensive auction categories in China, Christie’s has continued on its path of expansion in the market, including the opening of permanent art space in Beijing last October after establishing a sale room in Shanghai in 2013. China makes a significant contribution to Christie’s auction sales globally, as its clients are increasingly transacting around the world. The market also holds one of the fastest growth rates for new clients. In 2016, for example, Asia accounted for 35% of all new buyers’ spend, of which a significant portion came from mainland China. Charlotte will lead the Christie’s teams in Shanghai and Beijing, and work with Jinqing Cai, Chairman of China, along with the Asia and global teams, to drive continued growth in the market by expanding Christie’s client base, developing strategic growth initiatives and engaging new clients in innovative ways while ensuring existing clients are serviced to the highest levels.
Fluent in Mandarin and English, Charlotte earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature from Fudan University in Shanghai, and a Masters of Business Administration from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in the US.
