Online Contemporary Art July Sales Total $11.7 Million

New York – Today, Christie’s New York closed a successful series of three online-only contemporary art sales: Contemporary Edition, First Open and Trespassing together achieving a total of $11,678,940. The series of sales gave buyers an opportunity to acquire an extensive selection of exceptional artworks, with offerings ranging from paintings by established 20th century artists to freshly minted NFTs by emerging contemporary market stars.
Prints & Multiples sale Contemporary Edition closed Tuesday, July 19, totaling $1,588,230, and selling 138% hammer above low estimate. Leading the sale was Andy Warhol’s Mick Jagger. The work realized more than double its low estimate of $100,000, selling for $201,600.
First Open closed Wednesday, July 20, realizing a total of $9,086,742, selling 93% by lot, 190% hammer above low estimate. Lynne Drexler’s Untitled led the sale, selling for $693,000 – more than ten times its high estimate of $60,000. A strong performance was also seen by Ernie Barnes’ Juba Dis an Juba Dat which sold for $478,800 against an estimate of $100,000-150,000.
Curated in partnership with leading NFT and art collector and advisor, Ronnie K. Pirovino, the Trespassing sale closed on Thursday, July 21 and achieved a total of $1,003,968. The sale was led by Alix by Stik, which surpassed its estimate of $40,000-60,000 to realize $88,200.
