Johnson Chang- The Pioneer of Chinese Contemporary Art
Hong Kong – At Christie’s spring auction this season, the 20th Century and Asian Contemporary Art department will be presenting a range of works from the private collection of Johnson Chang - widely considered the founding father of Chinese Contemporary art.
Meticulously formed over three decades, this prominent collection stands as one of the most comprehensive and representational in contemporary art, charting the cultural awakening and lasting reflections of the seismic shifts in Chinese society.
Rebecca Wei, President, Asia, commented “2016 marks the year we celebrate our 30th Anniversary here in Asia, and we are honoured to be entrusted with a significant part of Johnson Chang’s monumental collection. This body of work resonates with the evolution of Chinese contemporary art and also underscores Christie’s pioneering spirit in this category.
Johnson Chang Commented “The collection to be offered expresses the vast diversity of Chinese Contemporary art, creating a platform that is both historic in looking back to the past as well as to the future, providing collectors a window and point of cultural reflection”.
