NEW YORK – Christie’s New York concluded its final two live sales of Fall Marquee Week on Saturday, November 11, 2023 with the Impressionist & Modern Art Works on Paper Sale beginning in the morning and the Impressionist & Modern Art Day Sale in the afternoon. The Impressionist & Modern Art Works on Paper Sale achieved $10,670,504 selling 96% hammer against low estimate. The Impressionist & Modern Art Day Sale achieved $35,282,258, selling 102% against low estimate, and bringing the running total of Christie’s Fall Marquee Week to $860,833,172.

The top lot of the Impressionist and Modern Art Works on Paper Sale was a work by Egon Schiele from the Collection of the Viennese Cabaret and Film Star Fritz Grünbaum titled Knabenbildnis (Herbert Reiner) (recto); Zwei weibliche Akte mit Draperie (verso). The work sold for $2,228,000—more than four times its low estimate. The second highest price was for Sitzende Frau, another work by Egon Schiele from the same collection which achieved $756,000. A third standout lot from the sale was Georges Seurat’s Arbre et route from the Phillips Family Collection, also achieving $756,000. Georgia O’Keeffe’s Tree and Earth, saw a fantastic result as well, selling for $327,600, more than eight times its low estimate of $40,000.

The afternoon’s Impression and Modern Art Day Sale was led by Les bords de la Seine près de Vétheuil by Claude Monet from the Estate of Sylvia Paine Constable, which sold for $3,438,000, more than double its low estimate. This was followed by a painting from the Collection of Anne Eisenhower, Nature morte, compotier avec fruits, pot avec fleurs which achieved $2,833,000 against a low estimate of $800,000. The third highest price came for a fantastic example by Henri-Edmond Cross, Canale Ponte Lungo, sold from the Collections of Arnold Gumowitz and the Anne Ulnick Foundation. It achieved $2,167,500, more than three times its low estimate of $600,000.
