FINE AND RARE WINES ONLINE: FEATURING THE RENOWNED CELLAR OF AN AMERICAN COLLECTOR TOTAL: $1,421,438

LOS ANGELES – Christie’s Fine and Rare Wines Online: Featuring the Renowned Cellar of an American Collector totaled $1,421,438, with 96% sold by lot and 104% hammer above low estimate. There was global participation with registered bidders from 16 countries and 31% first-time registrants. Throughout the sale several auction records were set.

The auction featured over 700 lots from the greatest winemaking regions around the globe, the top lot of the sale was a Magnum Domaine Armand Rousseau, Chambertin 1978 which sold for $25,000.

Other notable results were achieved for a Château Mouton-Rothschild 2000, (Lot 104, 12 bottles per lot) which sold for $23,750 and Petrus 1987 ( Lot 119, 12 bottles per lot) which achieved $23,750.

A number of auction records were achieved in the sale including a Pommery Brut, 1945 which sold for 9 times over its expected low estimate ( lot 6, 1 bottle per lot).

Chris Munro, Head of Department, Wine and Spirits, Christie’s Americas, commented: “Our opening sale of 2023 was a resounding success with a record number of participants for an online wine sale. We were particularly pleased with the results for the Renowned Cellar of an American Collector which was 100% sold by lot. Elsewhere we witnessed strong prices for rare Champagne with several new world records.”
