Christie's Presents Fine and Rare Wines Online: LA Edition
LOS ANGELES – Christie’s Wine Department is pleased to announce: Fine and Rare Wines Online: LA Edition as part of Christie’s Luxury Week, this auction will open for bidding on Tuesday 29 November and will close on Tuesday 13 December.
The sale offers over 950 lots from the greatest winemaking regions around the globe. Over 300 lots come from a distinguished East Coast collection and almost all were purchased upon release, including selections of First Growth Bordeaux and Grand Cru Burgundy. An additional 100 lots come from the cellar of Tom Wekell, a prodigious collector and part-time wine merchant from the Pacific Northwest. The sale also features rare Madeira consigned from the Island with vintages dating back to 1720 such as HM Borges, Pather Terrantez 1720 (Estimate $7,000 - $9,000 - 1 bottle per lot).
Highlights from Bordeaux feature spectacular vintages of all the First Growths, including many in rare large formats with vintages from the 1940s. Burgundy’s finest producers are all represented including Coche-Dury, DRC, Leroy, Rousseau, de Vogüé with rare assortment cases offered from Ponsot and Domaine Prieuré Roch 2005 (Estimate $15,000 - $20,000, 12 bottles per lot).
For lovers of Italian wine, there are vintages of Barolo dating back to 1955 alongside the best of Tuscany, including Ornellaia, Masseto, Sassicaia, Solaia, and Tignanello. An exceptionally rare selection of California wines is also on offer, highlighting a rare 10-vintage vertical of Screaming Eagle with perfect provenance and some of the most famous California wines ever produced, including 1971 Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon (Estimate $1,000 - $1,600 - 2 bottle per lot) and 1974 Heitz Cellars, Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Estimate $5,000 – 7,000, 1 bottle per lot).
Those who enjoy the sweet and sparkling can find rare vintage Champagne, Château d'Yquem 1947 ($1,500 - $2,600 - 1 bottle per lot) and other Sauternes from vintages across five decades, Tokaji Essencia from 1863, and an expansive selection of Port & Madeira spanning three hundred years.
