Paris – Christie's Paris modern and contemporary art week sales garnered a combined total of €126.6 million | £110.6 million | $134 million across 7 sales. Presenting two major private European collections, Love Stories, from the collection of Anne and Wolfgang Titze and the Sam Josefowitz Collection, as well as a series of museum-quality works, it was Christie's Paris’ highest-grossing modern and contemporary sales week ever. This result reflects the dynamism of the art market in the French capital. The sale’s registered bidders were located in 57 countries, confirming the highly international dimension of the week.
The two top prices in France this year were both realized at Christie’s - François-Xavier Lalanne’s Rhinocrétaire I (price realised: €18,3 million | £16 million | $19.4 million) and Joan Miró’s Peinture (Femmes, lune et étoiles) (price realised - €20.7 million | £18.1 million | $21.9 million), which was the top lot of the Avant-Garde(s) Including Thinking Italian sale.
The week has just ended with the Art Moderne Online sale, featuring more than a hundred works from a number of private collections, fetching €5 million | $5.3 million. Following the sales of the Sam Josefowitz Collection in London and Paris, Christie's also presented an online sale of drawings and prints by the Ecole de Pont-Aven, which realised a total of €73.1 million | £63.4 million | $77.3 million. Further sales from this collection will include Rembrandt prints, which will take place in London on 7 December. Additional 20/21 from the Sam Josefowitz Collection will be offered in Paris in Spring 2024.
“The strong results from these auctions are a testimony to his formidable eye as a passionate collector Sam Josefowitz. Christie's is very proud to pay tribute to him with this series of exceptional sales in London and Paris that have won over collectors from post-impressionism Pont-Aven and beyond.” Anika Guntrum, Vice President, Director of Impressionist and Modern Art Sales, Christie's France
