Christie’s Hong KongProudly Presents

Hong Kong – This season, Christie’s Hong Kong is honoured to present selected highlights from the collection of Robert Chang, renowned collector, connoisseur and philanthropist, featuring masterpieces of cloisonné enamel in the “Important Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art” sale on 29 November; and important paintings by Lin Fengmian in the “Fine Chinese Modern and Contemporary Ink Paintings” sale on 2 December.
Cloisonné enamel is a complex ancient technique of decorating metal vessels, cast from either copper or bronze, with paste enamels applied within copper wire enclosures. Cloisonné enamels produced during the Qianlong period (1736-1795), which combined various Chinese and Western decorative elements, are able to blend into a wide array of interior settings and therefore continue to appeal to contemporary interior designers and tastemakers worldwide. Four masterpieces of cloisonné enamel from the 18th century, the most prolific era of cloisonné enamel production in China, from The Robert Chang Collection, will be offered in the “Important Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art” sale on 29 November. Highlights include A Rare Gilt-Bronze And Cloisonné Enamel Pagoda-Form Tripod Censer And Cover (estimate: HK$2,500,000 – 3,500,000 / US$320,000 – 450,000); and A Rare Cloisonné Enamel Model Of A Parrot And Stand (estimate: HK$1,000,000 – 1,800,000 / US$130,000 – 230,000).
Also from the collection of Robert Chang, three Lin Fengmian paintings will be offered in the “Fine Chinese Modern and Contemporary Ink Paintings” sale on 2 December. Exceptional in quality, bountiful in colours, and rare in their compositions, the three paintings have been in the collection for over three decades and adorned Chang’s home for an equally long time. Among them, Opera Figures - Slain Six Generals and Breached Five Passes, and Dunhuang Dancers were once the property of Dino Terese Markowitz, who is the daughter of the artist. Along with Autumn Forest (estimate for three paintings each: HK$12,000,000 – 18,000,000 / US$1,600,000 – 2,300,000), these paintings are undoubtedly some of the best examples of the artist’s works that have ever come to the market and represent the pinnacle of the artist’s career in different stages of his life.
