Hong Kong – On 30 May, Christie’s Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art Department held four live auctions: The Imperial Palette - Three Qianlong Treasures, A Connoisseur's Studio - The Cissy and Robert Tang Collection of Chinese Classical Furniture, A Heritage of Appreciation - Selected Treasures from the Palmer Family Collection, and Important Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art. These events achieved a combined total of HK$376,379,800 / US$48,268,049, with nearly half of the lots sold surpassing their pre-sale high estimates. The category continued to attract younger collectors, as millennial buyers represented 20% of the buyers.
Marco Almeida, Head of Department, Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, Christie’s Asia Pacific, remarked, “We are delighted by the solid results that reflect robust market appetite, particularly for our expertly curated single-owner and thematic sales. Notably, the Qianlong Period Extremely Rare Doucai 'Dragon' Moonflask fetched over HK$100M, while a record was set for the Huanghuali Yoke-Back Armchairs. The enthusiasm we have seen from collectors and art enthusiasts, both at the diverse auction offerings and the non-selling exhibitions, showcases the continued passion for Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art. The seamless integration of our livestreamed auctions, which attracted an unprecedented 17 million viewers, further underscores the growing global interest in these remarkable pieces and the innovative ways we engage with our audience."
