Hong Kong – On 20 May 2021, Christie’s Hong Kong kicked off the Spring Auctions with The Ultimate Private Collection Featuring The Greatest Burgundies, totalling HK$45,607,125 / US$5,900,032 with 98% sold by lot, and 125% hammer over its pre-sale low estimate. The saleroom drew intense bidding from wine connoisseurs worldwide, with over a third of the lots sold via Christie’s LiveTM.
Sale Highlights:
- 100% sold for the selection of DRC, with 133% hammer above low estimate and 85% of lots sold above high estimates. Leading this session was DRC, Romanée-Conti 2004, 3 magnums per lot, realising HK$1,000,000 / US$129,359.
- 100% sold for the assortment of Domaine Armand Rousseau, with 120% hammer above low estimate and 57% of lots sold above high estimates. The star lot from this group was Domaine Armand Rousseau, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 2009, 12 bottles per lot, which was acquired for HK$400,000 / US$51,744.
- 100% sold for the Domaine Leroy offer, with 133% hammer above low estimate and 80% of lots sold above high estimates. The top performing lot from the selection was Richebourg 2009, 12 bottles per lot, which sold for HK$812,500 / US$105,104.
- White burgundy performed exceptionally well. All bottles from Domaine Raveneau were sold above high estimates, led by Chablis Les Clos 2006, 6 magnums per lot, fetching HK$106,250 / US$13,744; 80% of lots from Domaine Leflaive were sold above high estimates, led by Montrachet 2002, 2 bottles per lot, fetching HK$162,500 / US$21,021.
- 57% of the Champagne offered reached prices above high estimates. The leading lot from this category was Krug, Clos du Mesnil 2002, 12 bottles per lot, realising HK$150,000 / US$19,404. Of particular note was Salon Le Mesnil Blanc de Blancs 1996, 12 bottles per lot, which sold for HK$118,750 / US$13,744.
