Christie’s Finest and Rarest Wines and Spirits: Featuring Generations of Jayer, Burgundy from the Historic Cellars of King's College, CambridgeLondon, 8 June 2022

LONDON - Christie’s London Finest and Rarest Wines and Spirits auction on 8 June 2022 will offer an array of exceptional bottles, ranging from the most-coveted Grand Cru Burgundies, through to venerable Bordeaux, ancient Madeira and rare Single Malt whiskies.
Of particular note is Generations of Jayer, a collection of rarest Burgundy direct from the cellars of King’s College, Cambridge – one of the world’s most ancient and prestigious educational institutions (please find the dedicated release here). Generations of Jayer is a focused collection of forty five lots of some of the rarest Burgundies ever to be bottled. The wines have superb provenance, having been purchased by the college on release from the UK importer, Richards-Walfords, and thereafter stored in the deep, cool cellars at King’s – these are likely some of the finest examples of these wines a collector can hope to find today. Highlights from the collection include Georges & Henri Jayer Echezeaux 2001 (estimate: £50,000 – 70,000), and Emmanuel Rouget, Vosne-Romanée, Cros Parantoux 2005 (estimate: £24,000 – 35,000), both offered in previously unopened original cartons.
Further Burgundy highlights of the sale include rare wines from Domaine Roumier, Domaine Coche-Dury, Domaine de la Romanée Conti, Armand Rousseau, Domaine Leflaive and other top-tier producers, which sit side-by-side with rarities from Bordeaux, the Rhone valley, including Domaine Gentaz-Dervieux, Côte-Rôtie Cuvée Réservée 1990, and Italy.
In addition the auction will offer a selection of extraordinary rarities from Terroir al Limit, one of the most exciting estates in Spain today. Terroir al Limit is a famous, cult winery, high up in Priorat. The top Crus, Les Manyes and Les Tosses, have become über collectible over the last decade and now, just after the estate’s 20th birthday, Christie’s is delighted to present a rare selection of the top two Crus at auction including Terroir al Limit, Les Manyes 2016 (2 bottles per lot, estimate: £600 - 800) and Terroir al Limit, Les Tosses 2014 (1 x 6L bottle per lot, estimate: £1,000 - 1,400).
A selection of ancient madeira will be offered including Blandy's, Grabham Commemoration Solera 1811 (1 bottle per lot, estimate: £1,500 - 3,000) and D.Bolger, Bual 1900 (2 bottles per lot, estimate: £800 - 1,100). Alongside this rare ports from Ramos Pinto will be featured including the classic vintage of the 19th century, the Ramos Pinto Sweet White Port 1884 (1 bottle per lot, estimate: £1,600 - 2,400).
The sale will present a fine selection of single malt Scotch whisky, led by the extremely rare Bowmore 1964 Trilogy (estimate: £50,000 - £70,000) and Cognac from Martell & Biscuit-Dubouché (estimate: 2 bottles per lot £1,700 - 2,400). A unique offering of whisky from Royal Salute to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II (estimate: £100,000 - 150,000) will also be offered. Her Majesty’s vibrant pastel garments and iconic brooch collection have inspired this ultra-limited release. Only 21 sets of seven are available worldwide, and this precious collection is housed in hand-crafted Dartington Crystal decanters and displayed in striking pastel-coloured presentation boxes. The exclusive whisky blends together high-aged spirits, at over 32 years of age with provenance from no fewer than seven silent stills, each now lost to time, and has been finished for over 2 years in tawny port casks – a wine served during a Coronation Banquet in 1953.
