Miami – Wednesday, 14 February 2024, Christie’s will unveil an exhibition of selected highlights from three New York auctions taking place this spring: Latin American Art, Post-War to Present, and Contemporary Edition. The exhibition will be on view through Sunday, 18 February in the Miami Design District.

Jessica Katz, Southeast Regional Director, Christie’s, comments, “It’s an absolute honor for us to partner with the Miami Design District this season to showcase highlights from Christie’s spring auctions. The artists in the Latin American Art, Contemporary Edition, and Post-War to Present Sales represent an incredible range of talents that reflect the diverse landscape of Miami. We are pleased to bring these artworks to our local community this February.”

The first auction represented in the series, Latin American Art, is a sale that honors and celebrates the diverse visual culture from across the Americas and the Caribbean and this season will feature exceptional works by the foremost modern and contemporary artists from the region. Highlights on view in Miami include Dancers, a painting by late Colombian master Fernando Botero (estimate: $1,200,000 – 1,800,000) as well as a fantastic selection of artworks by Cuban artists: La vanguardia: Cuban Art from the Ruibal Family Collection.

The second sale of the series with artworks debuting in Miami is Post-War to Present, the premier platform for celebrated figures of the Post-War era and leading artistic voices of today. The works coming to Miami represent a richly diverse group of painters, including pioneering artists like Lynne Drexler and Sam Gilliam, as well as fresh examples exploring new perspectives on figuration through a contemporary lens by Loie Hollowell, Danielle McKinney, and more.

One focal point of Post-War to Present is presented in collaboration with a leading local institution, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA Miami).  A group of works, generously donated by contemporary artists and their galleries, will be offered between the ICA Miami’s Annual Gala, celebrating the museum’s 10th anniversary on 4 March, and the Christie’s auction nine days later. Proceeds will support ICA Miami’s energetic calendar of programming and exhibitions and its commitment to expanding the artistic canon by highlighting the work of important and under-recognized artists. The museum provides free and open access to audiences year round.

The third and final auction represented in the Miami exhibition is Contemporary Edition. Comprising more than 130 Post-War and Contemporary Prints and Multiples, this sale includes a fantastic selection of work by leading names with estimates starting under $1,000, accessible for those just beginning their foray into art collecting and seasoned enthusiasts alike. Leading highlights on view in Miami include examples by Damien Hirst, Ed Ruscha, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

This season, the Contemporary Edition sale will begin with a selection of prints and works on paper from the Collection of Brooke and Carolyn Alexander. Beginning in 1968, Brooke Alexander was one of the United States’ leading publishers of prints and multiples, working with many major names of 20th Century art including Jasper Johns, Donald Judd, Bruce Nauman, Raymond Pettibon, and more.
