       Auguste Rodin’s Penseur, Taille de la Porte dit "Moyen Modèle" realised €10,739,500 and established a record for a work by the sculptor sold in France

MORE THAN £10 MILLION RAISED FOR PHILANTHROPY AT CHRISTIE’S

       This season Christie’s supported fundraising efforts for humanitarian aid in Ukraine

       Jeff Koons’ seminal sculpture Balloon Monkey (Magenta) raised a total of £10,136,500 / $12,437,486 / €11,738,067

       The total realised across the auctions in New York, London and Paris, to date, in support of Ukraine is $13,694,966

MARKET LEADERSHIP IN THE ART OF THE SURREAL

       René Magritte’s Souvenir de voyage sold for £16,090,500, with five clients bidding to deliver a price that was more than three times the low estimate

       Leonora Carrington’s Ferret Race (Stoat Race): £1,362,000 / $1,671,174 / €1,577,196, attracting competitive bidding with four bidders pursuing the painting

 

DEPTH OF BIDDING WITNESSED ACROSS DAY SALES IN 20/21 LONDON AND PARIS

 The Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale in Paris achieved a total of £7,994,798 / €9,257,976 / $9,737,664, selling 96% by value and 87% by lot

              Germaine Richier, L'Echiquier - petit led the sale, realising £479,424 / $583,312 / €554,400, which was more than three times the low estimate

The Impressionist and Modern Art Day and Works on Paper Sale in London achieved £14,976,174 / €17,342,409 / $18,240,980, and was sold 87% by value and 80% by lot

       The sale was led by Paul Gauguin’s Vue de Rouen, which realised £1,992,000

       Pablo Picasso’s Femme nue assise realised more than double its low estimate, selling for £882,000

       German art performed well, with the selection of works within the sale from the Deutsche Bank Collection realising a total of £776,916 and taking the running total to £6,297,554

The Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale in London achieved £11,838,330 / €13,673,623 / $14,323,622, selling 85% by value and 82% by lot:

       The sale was led by Aboudia’s Untitled which sold for £504,000, a world auction record for the artist

       Edgar Plans, Coffee Time sold for £214,200 against an estimate of £40,000

       Salman Toor, Bendiyan Farm realised £478,800, more than double its high estimate

       Andy Warhol, Queen Elizabeth II sold for £403,200 against an estimate of £200,000, and a record for the edition

       Isshaq Ismail’s Unknown Faces 11 which realised £264,600 against an estimate of £30,000

 

WOMEN ARTISTS

Barbara Hepworth, Hollow Form with White Interior: £5,785,500, a world auction record for the artist

Work by female artists accounts for 48% of living artists in the London Evening Sale. Leading results were achieved for:

       Simone Leigh, Untitled V (Anatomy of Architecture series): £724,500

       Rebecca Warren, Basquiat: £352,800

       Anna Weyant, Ingrid With Flowers: £403,200

This was echoed in The Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale:

       Claire Tabouret, Makeup (Blue Earrings): £302,400

       Caroline Walker’s Bedding, Room 44 sold for more than eight times its estimate to set a new world auction record of £428,400

       The Impressionist and Modern Art Day Sale also witnessed exceptional results:

              Hannah Höch’s Doppelkopf realised £239,400

              Jacqueline Marval’s La bise d'automne achieved £94,500, a new world auction record for the artist

              Gabriele Münter’s Lampe im Fenster sold for £378,000

 

 

MARC CHAGALL

The 20 lots offered in Marc Chagall, Colour of Life: Works Formerly from the Artist's Estate achieved a total of £9,736,500 / $11,946,686 / €11,274,867, more than double the low estimate of the collection

The collection was 100% sold, with 90% of lots selling over the high estimate

The group was led by Le peintre et les mariés aux trois couleurs, which sold for £1,602,000

An average of seven bidders per lot participated in the sale

The accompanying online sale, including prints and artist’s books concluded on 30 June, achieving a total of £1,036,980 / €1,200,823 / $1,257,857

 

 

SUSTAINABILITY

Artists for ClientEarth – Beatriz Milhazes’ Cebola Roxa - offered as part of Christie’s initiative with Gallery Climate Coalition – has now raised more than £5.6 million [hammer] in the last eight months
