ANTIQUITIES TOTALS $4,721,346

NEW YORK – With buyers taking part from North America, Central America, Europe, China, and the Middle East, Antiquities made $4,721,346, which is 101% hammer above low estimate. More than 15% of buyers and bidders were new to Antiquities at Christie’s. The sale was led by a pair of Roman Marble Strigulated Vases that brought $466,200. Other highlights included, an Assyrian Gypsum Relief Fragment, which made $340,200; and two lots that fetched $277,200, a Roman Alabastro Cotognino Asclepius and a Roman Marble Goddess. Overall, the sale offered an impressive selection of works from ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Egypt and Near Eastern cultures, ranging in date from the 3rd millennium B.C. to the 7th century A.D. and featured three important collections: the Collection of Dina and Raphael Recanati, Property from the Estate of Dr. Vallo Benjamin, and the Collection of Jack and Jane Weprin.
