AN EYE ENCHANTED: INDIAN PAINTINGS FROM THE COLLECTION OF TOBY FALK

London - Christie’s announces the results of An Eye Enchanted: Indian Paintings from The Collection of Toby Falk which took place on 27 October live at Christie’s headquarters in London, selling 90% by value and 85% by lot, achieving a total of £2,893,968.
The highly decorative and well known private collection of Indian paintings belonging to academic and collector Toby Falk (1942–1997) attracted international interest with competitive bidding throughout the sale from 14 countries including the UAE, India, USA, UK, Thailand, Austria and Singapore. The 152 works offered in the sale included examples from different schools across the Indian subcontinent, from Mughal to Pahari, Deccani, Company School as well as some of the lesser known Rajasthani centres. The auction represented over 500 years of Indian paintings alongside a small number of Persian paintings from the 16th to the 19th century.

(Illustrated row two left), Lot 1 - A folio from the Nasir Al-Din Shah Album, A Portrait of Hayat Khan, Khidmat Parast (D. AH 1068/1658 AD) Signed Murar, Mughal India, circa 1630. (Estimate £80,000-120,000. Realised £176,400. 2 x its low estimate.
(Illustrated top left) Lot 54, In celebration of Elephants, Mewar, Rajastan, India, circa 1705-15. (Estimate £60,000-80,000). Realised £103,320.
(Illustrated row two right), Lot 81 – The Enthronement of Luhrasp, Attributable to Mirza Ghulam, Mughal Agra, North India, circa 1610. (Estimate £10,000-15,000). Realised £78,120. More than 7 x its low estimate.
Lot 101 - A Hunt, Punjab Hills, possibly Sikh, circa 1820 – 30. (Estimate £15,000-25,000). Realised £60,480. 4 x its low estimate.
