On 28 and 29 May 2016, Christie’s Hong Kong held three auctions of Asian 20th Century & Contemporary Art, which together realised a total of HK$675,853,750/US$61,208,032.
Over 35% of lots sold in the two day sales exceeded their high estimates, of which over 20 more than doubled their high estimates.
Eric Chang, Deputy Chairman, International Director of Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art, commented: “These three sales reflect the growing global prominence of modern and contemporary Asian artists, particularly those from Vietnam, Japan and China. The sales have grown to become a converging platform for both new and established artists between the different categories of Asian 20th Century Art and Asian Contemporary Art. We had strong bidding internationally and across Asia, including enthusiastic bidding from mainland China, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia and Taiwan. In our 30th Anniversary year in Asia, modern and contemporary Asian art continues to sell well, continually bringing in interest from new buyers and from our clients online.”
